Huh. April is often a tumultuous month for hosting. I mean, it rains all the time and then people have to deal with taxes; not exactly the perfect environment for inspiring new ventures. Still, this April seemed okay. Perhaps people are too worn down from the onslaught of economic bad news for taxes to even be a blip on their radar. Who knows?
The only real changes were HostMonster vaulting into the top 3 and FatCow plummeting back to #10. The FatCow drop is not too surprising. They’ve been yoyoing wildly in the last few months. HostMonster is a little harder to explain, although they used to be a fixture in the top 5 so maybe it is just a relapse of popularity. The reality is that, with so many good hosts going to the unlimited storage/transfer/sites model, it becomes harder for the top few to distinguish themselves other than by good service. This explains HostGator’s top spot, but also explains why BlueHost/HostMonster and DreamHost are having a harder time gaining a firm advantage over each other.
Happy Hosting!
