Welcome to hosting comparison! This website is dedicated to cutting through the clutter to find great hosting for your site. Most Popular Shared Web Hosts :: December 2007
BlueHost has bounced back to a respectable fourth place, but the rest of the top five were pretty much the same. The lower half of the top ten shuffled around a bit, but nothing too dramatic. By and large, it seems people were too busy in December enjoying Chrismahanukwanzakah to spend much time with hosting, despite some sweet deals out there. Happy New Year, Folks! Most Popular Shared Web Hosts :: November 2007
Well, the biggest change here is that BlueHost, which had locked the top position for two years (!) has dropped to 8th. Before anyone gets the wrong idea, this should be seen less as an indictment of BlueHost and more as a nod to how strong their HostMonster offering is. Glance upwards for a second and you'll see that HostMonster has once again snagged the top position. It might not say BlueHost on the box, but that's what it is where is counts and BlueHost remains a strong player as a result. midPhase, another multi-brand player, also showed very well in November, grabbing positions 2 and 3. The multibrand approach is an effective way for hosts to try out different plan structures without messing with their core brand, and BlueHost and midPhase are doing well with it. The rest of the top list suffered from the usual jitters. Yahoo rose, StartLogic dropped, etc. But the important thing is that the holiday sales are upon us and hosting deals are only going to get sweeter. Have a good one. Last updated 01-Dec-2007
Most Popular Shared Web Hosts :: October 2007
The King is dead, er, again! So much for EasyCGI's hold on the top spot. Even so, they only slipped to number two and losing to HostMonster is nothing to be ashamed of. HostMonster is really solidifying its position as BlueHost's big gun. BlueHost themselves are down to fourth, but taking two slots in the top five is impressive. MidPhase fought back against the BlueHost juggernaut with a big sale on their ANHosting brand. This helped push ANHosting up to number three, giving MidPhase two spaces in the top five as well. The remainder of the list is the usual suspects, shuffled up and down a bit. Have a good one. Last updated 03-Nov-2007
Most Popular Shared Web Hosts :: September 2007
The King is dead! Long live the king! Sorry for that, but it is such a rare occurence for BlueHost to be bumped from the top position that it messes with my neurons. And they didn't just lose first... they dropped to third. Granted their new brand HostMonster took second, but still. What a coup for EasyCGI. Well done, guys. And for a Windows host too. The rest of the top 10 also rumbled around a bit, although without much clear pattern. ANHosting and HostGator plummeted. Lunarpages, Yahoo, and DreamHost climbed. The rest mingled about like bored spouses abandoned at a wine and cheese party. The competitive landscape is good for us, the webmasters, but definitely makes for unstable footing for even the most popular host. Have a good one. Last updated 01-Oct-2007
Most Popular Shared Web Hosts :: August 2007
The stormy summer continues. It's like el niño for hosting, with some drought and flood mixing things up among the top contenders. Sure, BlueHost remained at the top and HostMonster only slid from second to third, but look at the rest. Yahoo down five places. Lunarpages down six places. DreamHost up four places. If you ignore BlueHost (perpetually the favorite, it seems), the top hosts averaged almost a three place move. Somehow I doubt Fall is going to be any quieter. Be careful out there. Most Popular Shared Web Hosts :: July 2007
A stormy month, July, at least for some. While most of the hosts skittered only a place or two up or down, a few hosts made big moves. HostMonster has pushed up all the way to number two, second only to its big brother BlueHost. Yahoo also climbed up four places into the top five. On the downside, however, DreamHost has plunged six spots to the bottom of the list. Mind you, this still puts them in the ten most popular hosts; it is just surprising to see a move that big. So, two go up, one goes down. Such is life in the hosting hothouse. Good luck out there. Last updated 01-Aug-2007
Most Popular Shared Web Hosts :: June 2007
Not much to say. A shuffle with the only notable move being HostMonster's quick rise in the ranks. Happy Hosting. Last updated 02-Jul-2007
Most Popular Shared Web Hosts :: May 2007
Remember spring? A season sandwiched between winter and summer? Not too cold, not too hot? Wonder what happened to it. We've already had several 90+ days in Pittsburgh and that isn't counting the heat index. No fun for this editor. I guess I'll have to hide in the a/c and review more hosts. The biggest change in May was a flipflop between ANHosting who dove a couple of months ago and midPhase who dove this month. Given that they are sister hosts (same company, different brands), I think we will continue to see this as the two brands compete to have the best deal. Either way, midPhase, Inc. wins, although it can look confusing on tables like this. The other surprise was HostMonster popping onto the list before I even finished writing their review (look for it this weekend). HostMonster is a sister-brand of BlueHost, and they provide a plan that is every bit as good as BlueHost's so I expect we'll see more of them on here in the future. Random site news: A lot of infrastructure work going on that won't be visible on the surface, but which will make upkeep much easier. A cooler sister-site is coming as well, that will be more Web2.0y (tm), with Ajaxy host search, user comments, etc. Stay tuned for more news. Last updated 01-Jun-2007
Most Popular Shared Web Hosts :: April 2007
April saw a lot of allowance increases. midPhase, ANHosting, PowWeb, and Lunarpages have spent the last couple of months one-upping each other, and that is great news for us. Webmasters win when web hosts fight. In terms of popularity, the big surprise was Yahoo surging back into the top five without making any changes to their plans. ANHosting regained a little lost ground and StartLogic dropped a bit, but the big competitors continued their dominance. Last updated 01-May-2007
Most Popular Shared Web Hosts :: March 2007
Well, that didn't last. ANHosting managed to climb to number two last month and plummetted to eighth place. I'm not sure why ANHosting met such a fate, as their sister-site midPhase stayed in the top three. DreamHost has finally made it to number two. Perhaps BlueHost will finally have a new contender. On the positive side, spring is here at last. Shorts weather! Last updated 30-Apr-2007
Most Popular Shared Web Hosts :: February 2007
AnHosting boosted their plans and got results; their sister brand midPhase didn't and down it went. And DreamHost continues its climb up the ladder. All the rest did a bit of shuffle, but were mostly frozen in that horror that is February. Come on, spring! Last updated 01-Mar-2007
Most Popular Shared Web Hosts :: January 2007
Well, that didn't last long. midPhase had taken away BlueHost's number one spot in December, but BlueHost has bounced back. More interesting is that Lunarpages and HostGator have both jumped to the top five and StartLogic has plummetted to eighth. APlus.net's visit to the list also didn't last, as SimpleHost returned and bumped them. On the positive side, Punxatawney Phil said spring is coming early! Happy Hosting! Last updated 03-Feb-2007
